Whang-od Oggay is the world’s oldest living tattooer, born in 1917, she is now 106 years old and has been tattooing for over 80 years. She began tattooing at the age of 15 under her father who was a master tattooist. The tattoo ink she uses is composed of indigenous materials, usually a mixture of charcoal and water that is tapped into the skin using a thorn from a calamansi or pomelo tree. She is scheduled to receive a National Treasures Award from the Philippine government for her contribution to the art form. ...
